This is an excerpt from The Medical Terminology Book With HKPropel Access by Laura S. Kabiri.

Let’s take a moment to learn a few parts of, and useful phrases for, the cardiovascular system in Spanish. I have included anatomical parts as well as useful ideas for aerobic exercise activities to promote and improve cardiovascular function in table 6.8. We then finish up with a few useful phrases in table 6.9!

Anticoagulants work by inhibiting coagulation, or the blood’s natural clotting process, to decrease the risk of blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes. Physical therapists need to know if patients are on blood thinners—and must counsel them on modifications and precautions with exercise and physical activity. Because they bleed more easily and freely than people who aren’t on blood thinners, they should generally avoid high-risk contact sports like American football, soccer, and rugby, or sports with frequent falls like skiing, gymnastics, and ice skating. Safety gear like helmets and proper shoes when walking can also help avoid accidental bleeds. With the right precautions, there are plenty of options to stay both active and safe while taking anticoagulants. Bowling, anyone!?
