Common tests, procedures, and treatments associated with the muscular system

This is an excerpt from The Medical Terminology Book With HKPropel Access by Laura S. Kabiri.

How should we treat our strains and tendinitis issues? With rice, of course! I don’t mean stir-fry takeout from my favorite restaurant . . . although it IS delicious, and comfort food is a real thing that does make me feel better. RICE is an acronym for rest, ice, compression, and elevation and is a first-line treatment for any “-itis” or minor inflammatory condition or injury. Activity modification (e.g., moving to an appropriate desk setup and off the couch) and orthotics can help, as well. For more serious injuries, further imaging and testing or surgery may also be needed. Take a look at common procedures and treatments for the muscular system in table 4.9.

MD Musings 4.1
You never realize how much you take things for granted until you lose them. This is certainly the case with movement and neuromuscular disorders. We humans take moving around, even going places we do not particularly want to go, like the Department of Motor Vehicles, for granted. Yet when you see patients or loved ones with movement and neuromuscular disorders, you appreciate the amount of intricate coordination between mind and body that it takes to move normally, from little to big movements. Providers try to find out why individuals have trouble moving, whether it is muscle, nerves, joints, or whatever the case may be, to work with other specialists (like therapist colleagues) to get the patient rehabilitated successfully.
