Creating a Functional Sport Performance Team

In this free hour-long webinar, Becci Twombley, RD, CSSD, discusses the importance of creating an atmosphere of teamwork among sport performance professionals. Attendees will learn strategies for improving efficiency and communication within the performance team so that athletes receive optimal care. The presentation will consist of a brief description of each team member’s role followed by an explanation of two models of effective sport performance teams a collegiate athletic department may adopt. Time will be provided at the end of the webinar for questions.

Dietitians, sport RDs, strength coaches, sport psychologists, athletic trainers, and sport administrators may wish to share the information in the presentation with personnel involved in the care and development of athletes in the collegiate or professional ranks.

Becci Twombley, RD, CSSD, is the director of sport nutrition at the University of Southern California, where she implemented a sport nutrition program that encompasses 21 sports and more than 650 athletes. Over the past three years, the program has gained national recognition due to the support of the administration and coordinated effort among the sport nutrition, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning departments. She also is a consultant sport registered dietitian for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Cirque du Soleil and is a brand ambassador for the American Pistachio Growers.

Twombley came to USC after spending five years at crosstown rival UCLA where she started as a part-time sport RD and established a program housed in sports medicine that included one full-time and one part-time sport RD to cover 23 sports and 700 athletes. Twombley believes that there are no good or bad foods; they are simply tools to accomplish a goal. She is fueled by passion to help athletes become resilient and achieve their potential by using food as their medicine.

Twombley is a graduate of Pepperdine University, married to Dennis Twombley, and mother of three.

This webinar is the third in a four-part series hosted by Human Kinetics in partnership with the Collegiate & Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA). The webinar series is designed for sports nutrition professionals seeking to enhance their education and better serve their athletes and clients. Each webinar will feature topics at the forefront of sports nutrition presented by CPSDA members, specifically advanced-practice Registered Dietitians who work full-time with athletes in colleges, professional sports, Olympic training centers, and the U.S. military.
