Live Well Middle School Health Florida helps students discover the fundamentals of health and wellness and learn how to apply these throughout their lifespan. The text—specifically designed to meet Florida’s health course standards for grades 6, 7, and 8—provides skill-based learning applications to reinforce health concepts and help students develop health literacy. Students build an array of skills:

  • Prioritizing nutrition, physical activity, and personal health
  • Avoiding risky behaviors and injuries
  • Analyzing the effect that family, peers, media, and technology have on their health and wellness
  • Identifying valid and reliable sources of health information and becoming savvy consumers
  • Sharpening interpersonal communication skills as they develop empathy, manage conflicts, and advocate for themselves and others
  • Strengthening decision-making and goal-setting skills, both individually and collaboratively
  • Developing character and resilience in an ever-changing world
  • Contributing to community and environmental health

Skill-Building Challenges, Healthy Living Tips, Career Connections, and other recurring special elements supply opportunities to analyze, evaluate, and apply the health concepts and skills being taught. Case studies and other features allow students to consider real-world issues from various perspectives. Also assisting students is a web resource that features easy access to material referenced in the text, including note-taking guides, worksheets, chapter reviews, and vocabulary terms with audio pronunciations and definitions—available in English and Spanish to meet the needs of ELL and ESL students.
