    About the Author

    Paul A. Fawcett, MA, a lieutenant in the United States Coast Guard, led the development of and implemented the first aquatics majors program in the United States. Frequently published in aquatic journals and magazines, Fawcett received the Alex Haley Award in 2004 for writing on U.S. Coast Guard–related topics. He has more than 10 years' experience in the field of aquatics with a variety of organizations, including YMCAs, summer camps, community aquatics programs, college recreation programs, and college physical education programs. He holds numerous instructor and instructor trainer certifications, including American Red Cross water safety instructor, lifeguard instructor, and CPR and first aid instructor. Fawcett is also the former chair of the Aquatics Committee of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association.
