Understand how clients can maximize optimal sport performance with vegetarian or vegan diets.

If you work with athletes who incorporate a plant-based diet when training clients or recovering from competition, you need Plant-Based Sports Nutrition, Second Edition. You’ll find nutrition guidelines, new recipes, and guidance from experts that help athletes keep their competitive edge while adhering to a plant-based diet.

Planning nutrient intake is vital for athletes, and a vegan or vegetarian diet can provide the nutrients your clients need to meet their goals. The authors of Plant-Based Sports Nutrition are registered dietitians who understand the importance of fueling for athletes who adhere to plant-based diets. Citing over 700 studies, the book will help you understand how plant products can help your athletes fuel better and live longer. New elements in this second edition include these:

  • New information on nutrition guidelines
  • 8 new recipes, for a total of 34
  • Updated research throughout the book
  • A new Key Takeaways section at the end of chapters[ME1]
  • Additional snack and food recommendations
  • A full-color interior

You will find guidance on how clients can ensure they get the proper amounts of all essential macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals while considering their caloric needs. Recipes for training, event, and everyday nutrition needs are included, and tailored meal plans serve as a great reference to implement fully or adjust for individual needs. Explore nutrient timing and relative energy deficiency syndrome (RED-S) as well as how to meet protein and amino acid requirements during light, moderate, or intense training.

Plant-Based Sports Nutrition, Second Edition, will add variety, boost performance, and ensure your athletes are getting all the nutrients needed to excel in sport—all while relying on foods and beverages made without animal products.

After reading the ebook, certified professionals can take the companion CE exam to earn continuing education credits.
