Physiological Effects of Repetition Tempos During Resistance Exercise Online CE Course will help fitness professionals build a strong understanding of repetition tempo and repetition duration to build the ideal resistance training program for each client. You will learn how proximity to momentary failure and time under tension influence the physiological stress imposed during sets of resistance exercise. By understanding the different impacts that fast versus slow repetition tempos have on cardiovascular stress, energy expenditure, and metabolic stress during sets of resistance exercise, you will be better prepared to design workouts using tempos that meet individual client needs and goals. Additionally, exploring low-load resistance training programs that use a variety of repetition tempos will help you create more engaging, enjoyable sessions for clients. The video presentation is accompanied by slides that make it easy to follow along with the presenter’s discussion.

Once you complete the course and pass the exam, you can print a certificate for continuing education credits.

Learning Objectives
  • Distinguish between repetition tempo, repetition duration, and time under tension and discuss how each influences adaptations to resistance training.
  • Design and apply resistance training programs that use effective repetition tempos for developing hypertrophy and strength.
  • Describe how proximity to momentary failure and time under tension influence the physiological stress imposed during sets of resistance exercise.
  • Compare the effects of fast repetition tempos to slow repetition tempos in terms of cardiovascular stress, energy expenditure, and metabolic stress during sets of resistance exercise.
  • Apply low-load resistance training programs that use a variety of repetition tempos to make exercise sessions more enjoyable for the client.

Audience

Certified strength and conditioning professionals and personal trainers.
Zachary A. Mang, PhD, is a postdoctoral research associate for the wellness program at the Los Alamos National Laboratory where he specializes in strength and conditioning for structural firefighters. A doctoral student under Len Kravitz, PhD, CSCS, his research interests include resistance training for hypertrophy, oxidative adaptations to resistance training, and the use of resistance training as a frontline defense to prevent chronic disease. He has written over 30 publications in exercise physiology articles for IDEA, American Council on Exercise (ACE), and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and presented at many conferences, including IDEA World and NSCA.
