Human Kinetics (HK) is profoundly saddened and disturbed by the recent death of George Floyd. His death, like that of countless other Black Americans before him, reflects a systemic racism that continues to plague our country. Human Kinetics strongly condemns racism, violence, discrimination, and the inequities inflicted upon the Black community.
HK, since its founding, has been a company that aspires to embrace diversity and to actively welcome and support individuals of all races, genders, religions, and beliefs. I know, however, that we can and need to do better. We need to learn more about the history of and difficulties faced by people of color. As an organization, HK will never tolerate nor condone any form of racism or discrimination. HK’s is a culture that values and demands Respect, Teamwork, and Integrity, and each and every HK employee must exhibit these values on behalf of our company and our customers. I recognize that for HK to fully succeed in our mission to increase the knowledge … and improve the health and fitness of all people, we have to acknowledge our obligation as a company to do our part in helping to repair the damage of systemic racism that affects our customers, partners, and staff.
With that in mind, I am supporting the formation of (and joining) a group of HK employees who will come together to address these important issues. The goal of the group will be to discuss how systemic racism is present in our workplace and community; provide educational opportunities for staff to learn more about the history of racism in our country and how to constructively work to change it; and offer thoughtful and actionable steps for HK (and our employees) to consider in affecting change both within the workplace and our larger community.
HK, and its employees, pledge to do the hard work necessary to help affect positive change.
